[Kenwood] R-5000 displays dots

Mine had the same problem when I purchased it used. I left it 
plugged in for a while and the problem went away.

Subsequent experience, over a number of years, has shown that if I 
leave it unplugged for more than a couple of days the problem 
returns. Plugging it back in and waiting a few hours solves the 
problem.

It does not matter if it is plugged into A.C. or a 12 volt D.C. supply.

This, might, be a solution for you.
