[Kenwood] TS-850S/AT Scan Problem

During yesterday's Field Day operation my KENWOOD TS-850S/AT commenced
scanning without being told to do so.  Once scanning started, I could not
enter any other command, including CLEAR.  The only solution was to turn the
transceiver off.  If I turned the  transceiver on within a minute, the
scanning continued.  If I left it off for a couple of minutes the radio
would work fine for a few more minutes then start scanning again.  I reset
the microprocessor but it did no good.  I switched VFOs A and B but to no
avail.  I was using a DELCO VOYAGER Marine/RV deep cycle battery which
measured 12.25 volts (receive mode) at the time.  I have heard that the
TS-850S likes to have a full 13 volts.  Words of wisdom appreciated.
