Hi All,

I recently (last year) bought a TS-950SDX whose prior owner
evidently fooled around with the service menu's and shifted the carrier
point. It's a fairly late unit, serial # 00700004 (July 98 ???), so it
should have all of the latest updates as there are no service bulletins
dated later than the radio. The service manual came with the radio, and on
pages 192 & 196, there are references to adjusting the carrier point. On
page 192 at the top of the page, it says initial setting, menu's #01 & #02,
but gives no value to set them to--it only says TX display 0. I don't know
what they mean by "TX Display 0". The only thing that's illuminated is the
"sub display". What is the "TX Display" ???

Then on page 196, item #9, it says for the main receiver, choose
menu #00, and adjust so that tone of the USB & LSB noise is the same. I've
done that as best as I can, but they're not exactly the same--there's a
very slight difference in pitch that I cannot correct. For the sub
receiver, it says go to menu #02, and adjust for the same thing as above.
That one is fine--good match.

Have any of you fooled with these settings, and if you did, what
are your thoughts ??? My radio is much better now than when I got it, but
something still doesn't sound right. When listening to SSB, the audio
sounds much better if I narrow down the "Hi Cut" Slope Tuning by 2 notches,
rather than leaving it at its widest--it should be the other way around.
When the 1.8 Khz SSB filter is in, the difference is even bigger.
Evidently, I'm still not centered. ANY IDEAS ???
