The comments I have seen do indicate the sound quality on transmit SSB is great
and it is...  But there is a couple of menu items that allow the TX LPF to be
lowered and the TX HPF to be raised.  The manual if you don't have it is
downloadable from the internet.  Doing so obviously increases the TX bandwidth
and this must be taken into account.  For DX or contest work this is not what
you want.

MAJOR differences.  Looks the same but massively redesigned and the SDX is
quite a bit better.  You can look at a comparison at the ARRL web site.  But
the SD is as good as the majority of the other HF transceivers out there and
better thn most in the TX audio category.

Either one is a good bet.
