The TS-830 S can indeed be run off an inverter, provided that you install a 
good "hash" filter, though 300W my be a little "light" for the job, due to 
losses in the filtering setup. I use a 400 Watt inverter feeding a 120 Volt 
isolaton transformer; this converts the square wave output of the inverter 
to a 60 Hz. sinewave. I still found  it necessary to use a couple of ferrite 
beads and .001 bypass caps to the output feeding the transceiver. If you use 
anything less than #6 stranded wire for your battery to inverter 
connection,you may also have to use a similar filter at the input to the 
inverter to keep it from "broadcasting" the hash to your receiver using the 
battery cable as an antenna.
