[Kenwood] TS-850 serial numbers

Matt

I've owned two 850's over the years, one of the best CW contest rigs ever
mass produced. To be sure the TS-850 has a few warts (VCO2 setting cap and
the ALC board failures) which are chronic potential failures through out
the life of the product. I don't believe there were however any major mid
run changes such as those seen on the TS-930 (I owned two of these) and the
TS-870.

As a matter of good preventative maintenance IF I were buying the older
2XXXXXXXX unit (manufactured in 1990) , I would replace the memory backup
battery immediately (unless the previous owner can atest that this had been
done in the last couple of years) to reduce the risk of damage to circuitry
in the area caused by leakage of older batteries another often reported
problem on older 850's

Good luck
