Hi Bill,

I don't know if any one of these are better than the other as far as
performance goes. Dollar-wise they are in the same ball park. I think any
vertical antennas, in general, radiates poorly in all directions. (As compared
to a Yagi/dipole.)

I use a Cushcraft R7 10-40m. I now wish I had gotten the 80m version. I
can get an 80m kit, but just haven't. I also use a G5RV insulated-wire
dipole antenna (in the trees up 30 ft), which works well too. (Trying to keep
a low profile.)

MFJ-2990 160-6m $360
Cushcraft MA-8040v 80/40 $320
Hy-Gain DX-88 10/12/15/17/20/30/40/80m $370

Some other decision factors might be what other bands you are looking to
operate on, and wither or not you will be running high-power. If stealth,
height, or radiation-angles are factors, and of course the amount of real
estate you can dedicate (guy-wires).

Of course, the higher the antenna the lower the take-off angle; therefore,
the more bounce-for-the-buck. (I think that saying works for verticals
too.)

That's my two cents worth.

Can anyone recommend a good vertical for 80m?
