[KCDXC] June 29th KCDXC Meeting-JoCo Library.

Very very well said Jeff.  Very nice thoughts.  And to the point you wanted to make.

Also I have read all the emails late since the power went off during the storm last night.  One statement bothers me right now that Alex said in his last email.  That being that he has no desire to be president next year "because he has better things to do".  I'm not sure what he means there and will not guess in writing.  My only thought is and this comes from a neighborhood problem we have here but won't get in to is that we need leadership people to be solutions, not problems.

CU all Monday night at the library.

Alex,

You my friend are one hell of a great contest op.  Zero question about that.  I know of none better.  But when it comes to leading this club, your personal aspirations and management style are causing your supporters to question the legitimacy of this support.  I am struggling with this issue myself...

With all due respect to you and the club, I just cannot believe the ongoing nonsense.  This is not the Alex club.  It's the KCDX club, with Alex as president.  The president serves the club; the club does not serve the president.

It is the responsibility of the club president as the #1 leader to ensure communications.  To seek everyone's participation.  To work with club members in groups and individually to develop a consensus.  And to give each and every member of this club, regardless of one's personal opinion of that person, the feeling that they are a valued and important part of the group.

As club president, you have a higher standard of performance expectation.  And must conduct your affairs in a more neutral manner than any other member of the club.  You come up with ideas and initiatives, and then promote these ideas to get the endorsement of the club.  Not all ideas will be approved.  But that's the way this kind of thing is supposed to work.

This ability is not the normal complement of skills a top-grade engineer and intense competitive contest op.   So I am not attacking you for shortcomings of personality, but simply pointing out the implication of the direction we are moving.  And hopefully illustrating my point with a couple of examples...

How can the decision to move the meeting place be made without the agreement of the club?

If changing the location is a good idea, you should be on the reflector stating your position, your reasons and trying to get others to support it.  The meeting location is not some minor detail - it is a critical part of the clubs business and not subject to change without the club's endorsement.

The idea of committing to use the K0GQ QTH follow on location has not been explained either...  Maybe this is something that everyone in the club knows about and I am the last in the line?  Possible!

The gang involved in the W0DXCC group has been talking to anyone who will listen about drumming up support for this by the club.  As the clubs president, you should be encouraging them to promote this discussion to the entire club.  To get the entire club comments.  Below you suggest it's some gang-of-10.  Maybe there are 10 guys actively promoting that - but none of them are the club president.  Why is it that only now the subject is getting some comment on the board?  Why are you not out at the front working on this issue - making your pro/con arguments to the club as a whole?

The announcement to the ARRL on the computer-only policy at Dayton was made prior to the discussion at the club.  Another executive decision that should have involved the club discussion?  That mess caused the loss of the club of one of the most suitable Elmer's in the area.  Rob is a combative SOB and I sure can imagine him wanting to argue to the death.  But as president, you cannot be dragged down into the fight.  And you should be taking steps to pull this guy and others we may have lost back into active participation in the club.  We cannot lose a single guy over personality issues related to the club leadership.

It is my observation that your personal agenda is causing you to make choices that are not necessarily supported by the club.  And your instinct to belittle those who disagree with you in email and personal discussions is very unprofessional.  You must be setting the standard for proper conduct.  Performing in a manner that the rest of the club members can observe and say - "that is how I should behave in this club."

None of these things are happening.  The club membership is becoming more and more fragmented.  We have such great potential but the direction you are taking us is away from unity.  Not toward unity.

Please do consider what your ultimate personal goals are, and how they integrate with the club.  And start acting as a consolidating and unifying voice or consider resigning your position.  These are the only two actions that are consistent with the club, it's membership and the vision that we all share.

Perhaps I am wrong in my facts, or in my interpretation.  If so, then I would stand corrected and beg the membership's forgiveness for my ill-informed pontification.

But that's the way it looks from here.

With respect to the club and to the president,

73/Jeff/ac0c

Nancy Pickard study room was reserved today for the June 29th meeting.

Info/documents on W0DXCC should be available to all KCDXC members, preferably via W0DXCC reflector, not only to 10 members in verbal form...
