Don,
We have said from the beginning at last meeting-no KCDXC funds to be used to sponsor event.
People or organizations sharing the work should share the profit-you are right. There are probably 10 people who may be interested in doing so-everyone one of them shall find $500-1000 to invest and share responsibilities and interest. W0DXCC shall get $5000 or more of own money and work with it. There are no need to take 'someones' money and by the end blame something or someone for failure to make any $$$ or loss. We just have seen US banks failures recently as an example. KCDXC don't have too much funds anyways. Interested party should work with $$$ in capitalistic, not "other" way. I'm all for W0DXCC, but not for KCDXC expense!
KCDXC may endorse event, but shall stay away from being $$$ vested. This is HIGH financial risk event for NON profit organization like us.
I guess we can have a tab on the WEB for the W0DXCC to be endorsed by KCDXC-there are no risk in doing so. Bill is quite busy man and I will leave it up to him.
Profit...was there a profit from previous events?
Answer probably is NO. Just tickets and accommodations for guest speakers will take $4-5K+. With 150 attending, no flea market and in worse possible time picked for the event-there will be no desired level of attendance or profit. That is why all other clubs rejected proposal and MN guys trying to push it somewhere else. As I have replied to other member earlier:
"I personally would go to Dayton for REAL fun. Small budget of $300 will do it-why substitute with something else in W0 which is 15% in value for 'only' $200? Get it?"
Why one need to travel to small event one month after world biggest event (Dayton) to hear about two year old K-3 or hear about some old DX -peditions? Go to Dayton and get the best for the same prize. Can't beat Dayton, period.
Until 2008 KCDXC had $0 in treasure by September/November-and that was a tradition. We at least brake even now and know were funds coming from and going to. Thank you for the Excel SS you have made-it works.
KCDXC goals is to expend membership and bring young people into hobbie while DX-ing or contesting. I don't see how W0 DXCC will help with either one.
Thanks, Alex-KCDXC President.
P.S. I would conduct event like this along with one of the exising flea markets/ARRL sposored events. The one at Ararat temple as an example? Good timing, flea market, ARRL endorsed, Dealers present.
