> January program is pretty exiting. I personally don't
> know too much about APRS and looking forward to this
> meeting!
>
> Brian Short, KC0BS, will be presenting APRS at our January
> 26th meeting. He will cover all you need to know to get
> started in APRS including its history, hardware, software
> and functional applications to Disaster and Public event
> communications.
> Brian says, "No other ham radio mode gives you as
> much distributed situational awareness. Thanks to the
> efforts of kcaprs.org and k0ham.com, you can use APRS
> effectively in every county in Kansas! My goal is to give
> you the tools and motivation to try APRS for yourself!"
> Brian was first licensed in 1987 due to the cajoling of his
> father K0CEY (SK). Since then, he has made ham radio his
> primary activity in his free time. His interest in repeater
> building began while at K0KU, where he also picked up a
> weakness for dx and contesting.
> Brian currently serves as President of the Kansas Amateur
> Repeater Council, Emergency Coordinator for Johnson County
> Kansas, Coordinator for kcaprs.org, Vice President of the
> Metropolitan Emergency Coordinating Council, Chairman of the
> KC Hospital Emergency Amateur Radio Team, and President of
> K0HAM which maintains 23 repeaters, and 31 APRS digipeaters
> throughout the Midwest.
> He is an active evangelist for amateur radio, and through
> his work with Matt May-KC4WCG, in the last two years, has
> brought more than 300 new hams (as young as 7 years old)
> into the hobby via their ham class. His ham youth proteges
> include his nephews and nieces (who all have their
> licenses), and Duncan, KU0DM who he works closely with in
> order to promote ham radio to youth and scouts.
> In the few remaining hours of the day, Brian is a Project
> Manager for the software company Compuware.
> Program is about 1 hour long.
>
> Second presentation is by K0RU and will be about K-3 and FT2000 comparison-pro and cons of the
> one radio against another. Will start with ARRL reviews and
> will go over personal experiences in contest and daily DX
> operation. Video clips will be included. Program is about
> 30min in length. K3 and FT2000 owners are welcome to
> participate.
> Will inform on February and March programs later.
>
>
> As always- projector, big screen and Internet connection
> will be there.
> Looking forward to seeing you there.
> Thanks to all presenters and see you at the meetings!
> 73. Alex, KU1CW, KCDXC President.
