Charlie,
I will let you know what I find for click mods for the 775DSP. W8JI has a
page devoted to Yaesu. Perhaps he can give some insight as to any mods on
the IC775DSP. Perhaps you should get someone else's opinion on the clicks I
heard. It could be that your signal was just very strong over here. Please
do not think that I was picking on you because I mentioned the clicks. Many
radio's out there today have clicks and it is not your fault if your radio
has them. For all I know I may have clicks on my radios. I would like to
find out. I just do not understand why the Japanese do not fix the problem
since it would be so simple for them to take care of.
How do you like your 775? I like mine very much except for a few little
things.
Clicks seem to drive the receiver crazy. It seems more so than on the 756
PRO II.
I would like the radio better if it had a real second receiver rather than
two mixers on the front end. Along with that, I would like the stereo
receive like in the MP. That is where you hear the main rx in the left ear
and the sub rx in the right ear.
Thinking of the dual rx, last year Tom and I were both hot and heavy in the
160 meter contest when I thought that Tom up and just took my frequency. I
kept calling him to ask what was the deal. He never responded. I found out
later that he was near the freq that I had last selected for the dual watch
even though the dual watch was not on. I found out that very very strong
signals will bleed through even though the dual watch is not selected.
There is only so much isolation in the mixer section. I believe that there
is a mod by ICOM that will fix this problem.
My last issue, which may be a issue with other radios, is that my rx really
gets pounded during contests if I use the noise blanker.
There may be a mod for that too. I probably should send my radio into ICOM
for a tune up and to have all the mods done. I have heard that they had
several mods since the radio was introduced. I probably have some of them
since mine is a later serial number.
Good Job in the contest!
73,
Dave KG0US
