Jay,

If you have been using ICOM radios, the rear inputs are high Z and have 
the problem.  You need to put ferrite beads on each lead INSIDE the 
connector.  You may also need to bypass the leads better.  I had to put 
the beads on each lead and then a big clamp on ferrite block at the plug 
to get it to work.  I have not had that problem with my Yaesu radios... 
FT817 and FT847.  Yaesu uses a different external audio scheme than ICOM...
