Recently the battleship New Jersey was mentioned in a Facebook post.I had a front row seat when when she returned from Vietnam in '69.I was on TI. It was nighttime and she was under full dress.

It's been a while, so I'll re-introduce myself. I'm Desmond, KC6VHG. I
live in the PWC housing on the Western edge of Treasure Island. I moved
here in 1999 and have raised my family here. I've served as a director
on the board of the Treasure Island Museum Association, though I am not
currently. I'm also a past commodore of the Treasure Island Yacht Club,
though not so active there anymore. I defer to Pete, WA6UDU there.
The Island is in a state of rapid redevelopment. High rises have gone up
where the BOQ (Star Barracks) once stood. The majority of the buildings
here have been razed. This housing area will soon be finished clearing
out and I'll go with it to make way for an open space park. The first
ham shack facing the city went long ago to make Navy housing. The 70's
shack that was behind the post office is now part of a sports complex
under construction. If there's interest I can take some pictures.
Building One now hosts a gorgeous bar in the lobby! The parking lot is a
popular concert venue with big events roughly once a month.
Being part of this group has been really rewarding for me. I've met Pete
and hosted members visiting the island. Your stories are too good to not
be told. It's been a pleasure. It's important to me that the legacy of
K6NCG endure out here in any form it can.
I'm hoping that we can take this moment, remember Mike, and build
something to keep the club alive and possibly create an exhibit for the
museum to help tell the story.
Who's with me?
Desmond, KC6VHG
Treasure Island.
