Interesting story, Dan.  I reported aboard USS VEGA (AF-59) for EXACTLY the 
same indoc [ we called it "Halsey's Kindergarten ].  got stuck in 1st. 
division, and barely got out, as those BM's did everything in their power to 
keep me, but BUPERS (and the PN's) finally overruled their stupidity, and I 
took a bus from Hunter's Point to TI... the rest is history.
