I didn't arrive at TI until July, 1962. I was there until May 3, 1963.
I, too ran phone patches. One group was the crew of a radar picket ship.
The electronics officer was the ham on board. He signed off my practical
factors sheet for third class. Since I had my third tripe before I
entered school I was able to make 3rd class before I left school.

The second bunch I ran patches for was a group of 30 RCA engineers
building a radar on the island of Roi-Namur in The Marshall Islands. I
was their only tie to their families for several months. It was a
wonderful training exercise for me, since I was engaged to be married. I
received many valuable lessons about married life, listening to them
discuss their day-to-day problems. In a strange twist of fate, I ended
up as an engineer on that island 25 years later. By then we had
telephone service to the world and I had my family with me. I was KX6DS
from 83-89 and made 83K QSOs.

Dave
