On boot-camp leave - Christmas of 1961, I remember gas in Kansas City at 12.9 cents per gallon! Man, you'll never see that again. Grandpa used to take me to the DX gas-sta in Topeka, KS... the guys wore a hard-brimmed "officers" hat, had a bow-tie with pressed uniform, and carried a whisk-broom in their back pocket... they'd actually sweep the car out for you. Checked OIL, WATER, BATTERY, BRAKE FLUID, and TIRE PRESSURES (Including the SPARE in the trunk!)

No way - no more - no how. Here in Colorado, we pump our own, unless you're willing to pay some dolt' for the priviledge of sitting on your butt in the car. I always turn the mobile HF off when in a station, so figure I may as well fill my own... check my OWN stuff.

Enough of this non-radio stuff. Life was simple with a "Twoer" in my '60 Chevy, running mobile 2m.

Tom - WØEAJ... yeah, gave up the first "A" in my call, after 43 years.
