As they say in NavMARS, BRAVO ZULU to Tony Page, Jay Hubert, Alan Best, Jack Troup for their outstanding efforts in cleaning up Building 549. The generator room was cleared and tall stacks of boxes were relocated in addition to hauling a truckload or two of old material out of the building. It is now actually possible to walk to the back of the generator room. Amazing!
Work remains, however. While the worst of the cleanup is done, a stack of aluminum tubing still needs to be removed, sorted and bundled, and we still need to clear the workspace in the workshop and finish tidying-up the operating room.
Also, upon locking up the building Saturday, a glance up to the Christmas star was met with dismay. The assembly apparently snapped in a recent storm, and elements are dangling from the tower. We need to remove the star from the tower in order to conduct repairs. We'll also need to obtain 300 feet of rope, or find a way to extend the current rope as much of the existing rope has been cut and removed. If you have a spool of large rope we could borrow, it would be very welcome, else we will have to purchase new rope.
Are you available to help this next Saturday, April 9? Please let me know so that I can notify the Coast Guard and they can arrange to open the building.
Hopefully we will regain occupation of the building soon. The cleanup is a big part of the process and we need all the help we can get.
Thank you!
Bill
