i went to a similar presentation at the Mill Valley club this month. While interesting, in my humble opinion the Beale ground based radar is a pork barrel useless facility. We are in NO danger that any country within the reach of that radar will launch a missile intended to harm the US. Even if a launch could be detected, as the Air Force captain admitted, confirmation of a launch would have to occur in 60 seconds or less to be effective to launch a missile to shoot the enemy one down, and it is like trying to shoot a moving bullet with another bullet. Further, there is so much junk in outerspace (tons of it caused by the Chineese destruction of one of their dear sattelites), the ground based radar cannot penetrate the area it purports to cover, further there is so much other "noise" from consumer electronics, even if all of the amateur repeaters were turned away or turned off entirely, Beale would remain largely useless. Think about it. I believe
that there is an ulterior motive from the federal government, or the "shadow" government more inclined to limit any interference with commercial use of radio air waves for the ever increasing demand for wireless high speed access, cell phones, and of course tracking domestic communications in the name of preventing domestic terror attacks.

Since you have already attended the event most likely, what do you think?
