[K6BW] Homebrew SSB Transciever for portable Digital Application

Thought it might also be useful as a QRP rig for Field Day, here is a =
circuit for an 80 meter SSB transceiver. The concept is to marry this =
unit together with a laptop computer or Palm Pilot to make a low-cost, =
very portable, battery-operated field station with MT-63 or PSK-31 text =
transmission capability. Target cost is $100, though don't know if the =
entire station can be built for that amount. Perhaps it could be =
possible with visits to swap meets, or use of refurbished Palms.

I don't think a circuit board is available, but there is a beautiful =
picture of a prototype built on a Radio Shack circuit board (not sure I =
recommend that board, though). Also, if it is to be used for PSK-31 or =
MT-63, it may be useful, but not necessary, to replace the mechanical =
switches with reed relays (or other) so that transmit can be software =
controlled.

Another idea worth exploring is a DDS transceiver (all digital). Think =
experiments/development is underway. Haven't explored Internet fully to =
find out, though. DDS, if available would really be the way to go!

Regarding this project. Might we make this a club project? Are you =
interested in getting together and putting this assembly together as a =
group? Please send your thoughts to the reflector. =
