Jeff
fantastic news on your willingness to pursue CW.  its a fun mode - and there are cool, small, inexpensive rigs also that major in CW.

key.  my own experience, I send just as well on a J38 replica (maybe $20-40 market value) versus something more exotic.

paddle.  in my experience, it is better to spend a little more to get what you can send well with.  you may wish to gather new prices on Bencher, Kent and any other 'common' moderate priced units - so you will recognize a good used deal.  I would spend a little more if you can.

electronic keyer.  these are now very inexpensive.  4stateQRP may have a nice keyer kit - with built in memories.  don't overspend here -- likely for a while the keyer inside your TS480 will do just fine !

have fun with this.  if you are willing to sometimes use a straight key -- the straight key century club (SKCC) typically have several CW ops in training on our chat page - folk will QRS to give you some practice.

In advance of our upcoming Hamfest I thought I would put this out for
our club members. Just trying to shop local.

I am seeking a keyer paddle with a 3.5 mm 3-conductor plug. The paddle
is for a Kenwood TS-480 with an internal electronic keyer. Alternatively
I can use an electronic keyer with a 2-conductor plug (also 3.5 mm). The
external electronic keyer must have a positive keying output. I am also
looking for a straight key with a 3.5 mm 2-conductor plug.

Being my first dabble into CW I am looking for a modest start. Thanks.
