No I have never encountered a problem of other programs not working.  Compatibility mode may or may not resolve your problem but it's worth a try.

Thanks!  I'll give that a try.  Would that also mean that regular Windows
10 programs, which Microsoft won't let you get away from, not work?

 Windows 7 recognizes it just fine.
