If they are windows machines, you may be able to use the remote login
service.  I use that from my laptop to access my desktop.  Another option
is to repurpose an old machine into a file server so your files are
accessible, regardless of what machine you are on.  I use NAS4FREE on an
old 1.8 GHz Compaq and it works well.
