[K3PZN-List] H.R. 607

Bill

Thanks for the alert. What's even more puzzling is that amateur radio does not
'own' this spectrum. Let me explain -- we are a secondary user of this
spectrum. The primary user is radar, used for national defense. The Hawkeye
E2C (or E2D) protects Navy battlegroups from the air. Moreso, the large land
based missile defense radars also use this band. Not long ago there were
reported interference issues between amateur 440 repeaters and these radars in
New England and California, that were resolved with a requirement for lower
transmit power from the repeaters in these regions (it was a good cause!).

What this all conveys is that some in congress do not understand frequency
allocations and how they are used for vital functions. Do patiently explain to
our representative(s) that this spectrum is primarily critical to military
national defense, and secondarily to civil well-being in emergency communication
performed by amateurs. Our civilization can't give in to only considering money
interests for spectrum, but of course these factors are beneficial to those of
us that use cell phones and the like.

Hi All,
I never talk politics among friends, but we all need to be concerned
about this one. If you havent already, I encourage you to go to the ARRL
Homepage and at the top there is a link that says Oppose HR 607. Bottom
line, there is a bill in the U.S House of Reps that would auction off our
spectrum on 70cm 420-440 Mhz. Please read the bill on the ARRL website.
The ARRL website tells you how to contact your congressman and even provides
a letter ready for you to send. Not a 440 guy? dont care? Think of it this
way, if we let this one go, who knows, 2 meter could be next. Just a
thought. Ok, off my soapbox.
