Wow definitely some interesting responses on your rigs!
KB3LNM -- 100% compliance with the query -- built rig from handbook. I look forward to seeing a picture some day! And if it still works ... maybe operating it!
W3JJH -- as he still has it, I surmise he built it! a different kind of modulation than a 'vintage novice' - but the same stuff plus a modulator. yes this stuff could be converted for the amateur service!
AK3Z -- as his rig caught fire, certainly a lot of merit in his experience! after being scorched I can see how he might lose all interest in vintage gear! (My HW16 did catch fire once, but only one capacitor - still I needed to open all the windows in the house).
KE3FL -- store bought rig, but Century 21 has a direct conversion receiver (but likely better CW filter than many of our first receivers!). I never guessed Phil was licensed so recently compared to many of us.
Pete at least recognizes the 807 ....
This has me wondering what rigs other long-time hams have had. Did WX3B start with a 1000MP as a novice? Did N3UN ever use homebrew gear? I wonder if I am the only wacky person who has made a few QSO's this past year using vacuum tubes (not that I built any of it, other than rebuilding the PS).
More stories got to be out there. Meanwhile if you are set up for 6m, make some more contacts while the sporadic E is active. DX is literally out there, when the ions make their paths.
