Hi Phil,

Doug gave you good info. Listen to him!

I am still using WinAPRS, available at
http://winaprs.net/ and other sites, . . .
and I wanted to try out UI-View too, so
I'm glad Doug offered the link.

I am running a stationary APRS node at
home (under "N8PK"), have a vehicle with
APRS turned on every now and then (under
"N8PK-9") and sometimes fly balloons with
APRS trackers (under "N8PK-11"), although
most of my PICetSat series are considered
expendable. More on that later.

We can chat about all the configuration
stuff to get you going as painlessly as
possible, but I am celebrating a birthday
in the family tonight and won't make the
club meeting after all. Can we get
together off line?

FYI, on my second high-altitude balloon
experiment of this summer I expect to fly
an APRS module with a PICetSat module (as
well as a tiny S-band video experiment by
Tom Capon, AB3LN). You are welcome to
participate along with other CCARC members
and any students out there!

Cheers,

Pat Kilroy

Phil,

Information: I would recommend that you starting reading at
www.aprs.org. Bob Bruninga has a lot of great information for the read on
his page and there has been a lot of additions/recommendations for 2011.

Software: I would start with UI-View. This software has tons of
add-ons, but there really is no currently activity supported APRS software,
but UIVIEW is my favorite. It can be found at : http://www.welcome.to/uiview

I hope that this helps to get you started. Please let me know if I
can help further.

I've got a Garmin Rino 110 + power & data cable, I've got a Kantronics TNC
which can do APRS (TX GPS position?) & a home brew power cable. I've got a
computer running XP.

I need at least one other cable? & software & some idea of what I'm supossed
to be doing with this stuff in order to get it to track ???? where other
people are??, send where I am??? what?

Let's start with, what software should I get for APRS on the XP laptop?

Tnx & 73 de ke3fl
Phil
