Good deal, Phil. There is another fellow who offers FREE programming
software for the Yaesu HTs (VX6 and VX7) and just asks for a donation if you
use it. The format is similar to RT but maybe not quite as advanced or
refined. I believe all of the file formats are the same but not sure about
that. Just a side note--if you buy from Yaesu you have to buy a cable AND
software in one package each time. If you buy from RT, you can buy one
cable and the software separately for any of your rigs. I also use their
programs for my older Icom mobiles. I will bring my laptop to the next
meeting and can show you how they work.

John,
Thanks for the info but after getting info from so many saying that the Bob
G4HFQ, http://www.g4hfq.co.uk for $15 software was wonderful I contacted Bob
& had a very nice email chat with him. he also pointed me to an eBay listing
I had seen before for the cable:
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Programming-cable-Yaesu-FT-7800-FT-8800-FT-8900-/380
304374988?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588be83ccc
- $13.39 + $1.99 shipping = $15.38
Time left: 28d
and since I had a few eBay bucks I got it to just below $10 so total cost
was ~ $25 for software & cable.
Bob is retired & is doing this to help ends meet, been there just not the
retired part.
I wonder if we can now transfer data files from one software package to the
other?
