I remember seeing that in a QST article also. The author actually stripped the entire chassis, then he cleaned it before completely re-assembling the rig. It gave a very bright effect - but one has to wonder if the effort is worth it.
I don't remember anything specific on dials - but I can imagine plastic being discolored over time. You may wish to do some google research here.
Enjoy the old rigs -- I see an HW16 here that needs some use.

Sometime recently I glanced over an article about restoring a Collins S-Line radio. I was impressed with how well the author had cleaned the chassis and restored the dials of te radio. I'm pretty sure the article was in one of the ham radio magazines but I can't find it.
Anyone remember seeing the article?
I'm working on a Philco model 38-3 radio (1938 vintage) and want to clean the chassis to get rid of all the crud that has accumulated over 70 plus years. Anyone have suggestions on how to clean the radio without damaging old fragile components.
