Jim-

Tuesday afternoon I was returning home from Westminster on 140 and tuned my
car ratio to 1710 and listened to power-line noise. As you say, it is
terrible. I continued past Sandymount and the noise peaked around Suffolk
Rd. at the ATT tower. I turned around at the trailer park on the old road
and came back to the parking lot of the strip mall in front of the tower and
noise really peaked around the west end of the strip. I drove toward home
via Carroll County Trails and Brown Road -- the noise is everywhere but no
where near the levels heard near Suffolk Rd.

I also drove down Peachwood and turned around at the cul-de-sac and could
hear some line noise. When I got home, the noise was minimal.

I checked 160 again yesterday and the background noise and some A.C. noise
was running about S5 to S6 across the band. Between 2.0 and 2.5 MHz I hear
buzzing signals at various spots. (Are Loran stations still active?) But,
I didn't try to verify if something in the house was generating the noise.
It warrants more investigation when I get a chance.

Good luck finding your noise. Can I help? I have an FT-897D we might be
able to power from the cigarette lighter if you want to drive around while
monitoring 160. I don't have an HF mobile antenna, but anything should work
for just receiving.

Well my dog is female and not likely to water the stake.. besides most poles
do not have ground rods.. In fact they only appear every several poles..

KF3AK and I listened to his AM radio as we rode down 140 to Sandymount road
and down Lawndale Road. 140 is terrible.. it dropped off after we got part
way down Lawndale and was almost nil back by Petes place. On my Peachwood
court it was also low on 530Khz. However as low as it sounds on 530Khz on
1.82 it was still S8 today on my receiver. It will be interesting to see if
it rains tomorrow and what the level is after it rains for a few hours.

Anyone know the email for the BGE interferance troubleshooter? I am gonna
put in a request to him to see what he can do. At bare minimum he can come
out and see what I am talking about.

All of my grounds are good and the rod on my electrical box and the ground
on my coax entrance is tight and secure. I have run my radio off a battery
and turned off all of the power in the house and the problem is still the
same. Go figure it couldnt be something easy.. NOOOO I gotta have a massive
problem. TOnight SM4CAN was S3 listening on my beverage (even though there
is still some raw ac on it but very weak) at the same time his signal on my
inverted L was S8 and he could not be heard at all.
