[K3PZN-List] Youthful Hams in VA Blue Ridge

As for where the balloon went, my best estimate on the landing site is just
on the North edge of Aberdeen Proving Grounds, possibly in the nearby
Chesapeake Bay. This is based on the last known triangulated position
(between Bel Air and Aberdeen) at 1447 and an average ground speed of about
23.4 mph. (Note: the last full frame of telemetry that I collected was at
1508:02 at which time the balloon telemetry indicated an altitude of about
1000 feet; signal was lost 40 seconds later.)
Regards,
Stu (W3STU).

I found this interesting article on youthful hams down in Frank's neck of
the
woods (an area I am familiar with do to family relations down there):
http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/264867 -- wow 3 high schools with
ham
clubs! maybe more than have survived in the entire state of MD (my school
had a
club in Ohio but that was a few years ago, when the TR-4C was a new rig).
Also I heard a lot of traffic on the repeater associated with a later-than-I
expected balloon flight ... so I can imagine a report on the delay (??) and
I am
curious how many trackers participated (on the repeater anyway), and of
course
conjecture on where this thing went.

Tower work is for the young fellas! put up my own in the early 90's. 50 feet
is my limit! but , have fun with it and be safe.
