Progress Report:
Old drive was not working because the bios was auto-adjusting to no drive for booting.
So new drive was not detected and then when I put old drive back in the bios wasn't set for it.
Not sure why bios won't adjust back when a good drive is installed but once the HD is auto-removed from boot order that how it remains.
I can't turn off LAN booting but I can turn off that "position".
Weird setup not sure how common that is but you don't enable/disable a device but rather the position in the boot order.
So I only have the first three positions set (Floppy,CDROM,HD) and the last position is disabled.
So what I find is that the old drive works.
The new one doesn't.
And on shutdown with the old drive, Linux reports that it "cannot iterate the IDE device: No such file or directory"
Any other Linux users ? What does that mean ?
I may take it back tommorrow but would like to know if may happen again before I bring a replacement home.
(Picked this up local in Staples.)
