Anthony-
You might want to pull the cmos battery (or short the bios pins) to set the
bios back to defaults. It's a simple enough thing to try...

Try the known good cable, - good idea.
"I'd say the drive has gone south but" - If neither HD works it is highly
unlikely that both died at the same time, and one while it was not even
being used!
