To simplify things, i would consider building a 10m dipole and feeding it by itself.
For this kind of propagation, called sporadic E (or E skip) the height of the antenna is not that critical to get in on the fun.
Small possibility that the rig has an issue, but maybe it means your set of dipoles can't find a decent match on 10m? (I dont know how your rig bandswitches, but if it is a switch exercise it some).
10m e-skip is a passing fad every spring/early summer. because its a moving target it is fun. hopefully you can get something going.
