Hi all,
Not sure exactly what time it opened up but, 10 meters opened up for about
an hour or so tonight (1930-2030 give or take), at least as long as I was
listening. Listened to some good QSO's, unfortunately my rig is not fairing
well on the 10 meter band so, I had to forego transmitting. I even watched
some PSK31 QSO's going on around 28.100 for a bit with fldigi on the laptop,
plugged into the speaker jack of my Kenwood. Hearing beacons from the
mid-west and up in the Illinois areas. Florida was coming in rather nicely
as well... Fun to hear the band coming alive tonight...
I really need to get some help with the 10 meter band. The rig works really
nicely on 20 and 40 meters without problems. SWR is right around 1.3:1 so,
I'm ok with those two bands but, the 10 meter band is giving me fits...
I am starting to think that it's something with the radio and not the
dipole. I have been told that fan dipole bands can cause problems for each
other although I am doubtful that this is an antenna problem just because of
the fact that 20 and 40 have nice smooth movements on the bridge when keyed
up. When I key up on 10 meters, the bridge goes crazy, flickering back and
forth (without speaking into the mic at all). One other thought I had was
that maybe there's something wrong with the bridge at that freq? I do notice
that the lights on the radio flicker a little while the bridge is going
crazy and I don't key up for more than a couple seconds since I don't want
to cause any problems with it or at least any more...
Any thoughts?
