[K3PZN-List] Triple Play Award -- Club Scoring and Our Own Version of Award ??

It's kinda nice to have some 'wall-paper' (translation = ham lingo for 'worthless' paper hanging in the shack conveying a operating award) -- and I admit to having a little of this stuff.

In 2009 the ARRL has the Triple Play Award, for working all 50 states on CW, digital and phone.

I realize we have some members who don't do CW, and even a few who rarely do phone.  Still I think it would be fun to track everyone's progress in making QSO's across the USA in 2009.

I believe Steve or someone already proposed this -- Let's do it !!

I propose --

(1) we track club member participation in a spreadsheet -- i am willing to present it each month.

(2) we consider creating our own version of the triple play award !  we'll present the awards at the Xmas/Holiday party !  we'll come up with some level of minimum achievement that is a bit easier than the ARRL award (since members can get the full award there!).

my thoughts for CCARC triple play, to be refined and presented at the Feb club meeting:

- work at least 30 states on one 'prefered mode'  (are there really still 50 functioning states? we'll endorse the certificate for up to 50 states on the award)
- work at least 10 states on any second mode
- observe another ham making a QSO with the third mode
(yes modes are phone, CW, and digital)

we should consider a vhf only version of the award -- if people say they are interested !

Let me know what you think ??  Tracking via LOTW is not a requirement, but in lieu of this we'll ask for a log in any electronic or paper format.

FYI - my progress, per LOTW -- yes i have made more CW QSOs that this to USA, they just aren't doing LOTW yet, or of course they haven't uploaded log yet.

based on Mike's experience, i may need to make house calls as a LOTW doctor once I remember how to do it (gee it might be a nice way to see much nicer shack's than mine !).  i think the pre-post card part is the hardest part - but I need to confirm with y'all.
