I just received this very sad news. I'm not sure how many of you knew Doug but I first met him on one of the Frederick repeaters just after he became a ham I think he was about 15 at the time.

Here's the news from Steve/KQ3B:

I am sad to report to you that Doug, KB3HAM has died. Early information
indicates that he died in his sleep sometime on the 15th of January.

As you know Doug and I were close friends. We stayed in touch by phone on
a daily basis--sometimes as many as 3 to 6 calls, short conversations
mostly, as he went through his day. Doug was enrolled at Metro College of
Denver and was looking forward to starting his second semester there, all
except math that is. He was living on his own in a high rise in downtown
Denver. He attended a National Federation of the Blind program there a
year before and decided he liked the area so much he would return for
school.

I last called Doug about 4:10 pm on Thursday the 15th. He had not been
feeling well for a few days and had gone to the clinic to see a doctor
earlier that day. It seemed to me that he had a bad cold and a sore
throat. He had complained of dizziness earlier in the day. When I spoke
to him he sounded sick, and older than usual. We cut the conversation
short and I wished him to feel better. He did not call again. When he
did not call by early afternoon on the 16th I was starting to worry. He
would always call in the beginning of the day and tell me his plans, and
ask mine. I called throughout the day on the 16th and got no answer. His
mom tried as well. Later on the 16 she became worried enough to call the
apartment management and send someone up to his room where he was
discovered lifeless in bed. The coronor was called and an autopsy will be
preformed.

Roy, Doug has a lot of friends and acquaintances on ham radio--I need not
tell you this. Particularly Jerry, AA8TF who, if he does not know should
be informed ASAP. Please, if you would pass this information on by
reflector and other means. I will pass on other information as I receive
it.

Doug is my best friend.

Thanks,
Steve
