Well definitely we want to keep a younger image as we seek to expand the club - so its definitely an insider acronym only.
The tubes are neat and I enjoy my vacuum tube rig (i did use it a bunch for a couple weeks), and maybe I'll restore a transmitter to use with my first receiver again.
Definitely some technical activities are a good thing to keep our minds younger - Dave who visited our meeting did build his kit. when i build mine I am thinking of using it with a 10m beacon, once I do my homework on valid beacon freqs and build a suitable transmitter for it.
As Steve suggested a club building project would be interesting -- we should research our opportunities a little then move out and do something. A well-made regen might be an interesting project that would be something different. I found one design that uses 2 low voltage vacuum tubes, but I know that there are also some solid state ones. Obviously, if we do a regen it needs to be a quality design that is worth our time to use.
Also on my project list for my shack -- a decent digital mode interface - I found a QST design that uses a comparator to avoid needing a PC control interface for switching (since many PC's like my 'new to me' desktop that lacks a serial port). I may gather the parts to assemble my prototype over the holiday break.
Congrats to Rich for a well deserved honor - your enthusiasm has contributed greatly to expanding the interest of the club.
