Greetings;
The CARET net will be meeting this evening at 8:30 PM on 145.410 MHz. After the
net, Tony KF3AK and I will be trying some EasyPal experiments on VHF Simplex.
If we have good luck we may even try to use the repeater.
For those of you who still haven't heard of EasyPal, it's a free program that
works with your sound card to radio interface, that can send both pictures an
text using forward error correction techniques. It's really neat to play with,
especially on HF. Our purpose in testing it on VHF is to see if ARES / RACES
can use this as a tool to provide pictures (incident scene, street maps,
weather maps, X-rays) back to the EOC or where a customer would need them. And
since this program sends its data in one continuous burst of upto 2 1/2 minutes
in length, it should be possible to use a regular voice repeater to extend
communications range.
