John
Please give me another week to confirm, but very
likely I can provide a K2 to N3WM's operating
position. I would love to use his IC-756 but agree we
would kill the batteries much faster than a K2.
Wow it will be neat to see Pat's PSK station kill the
batteries much slower than John's.
A third CW station using alternative rigs could be a
neat exercise. But we would somehow have to address
cross-logging with the other stations. I have used my
Norcal 2030 (20m only, 16 mA receive current, class E
efficient 4w PA, novel receiver architecture designed
by a Motorola-RF-geek) casually in contests and it
does ok. It could be supplemented by a HW9 or a KX1
or ??, but I myself would not volunteer to use an HW8
in FD traffic (I will admit to still having one).
I see an alternative mode provision in the contest,
and I wonder if a SSTV two-way link could be
demonstrated to visitors? Maybe the other end could
be WY3P ? Maybe VHF ?
In terms of band coverage, a second phone station
could focus on 10m E-skip (if we experience it). Or
covering this could be part of our GOTA.
