[K3PZN-List] FD2008 Advanced Planning

Andy

we did not use any extra bandpass filters (that i know
of) during the contest.

last i knew the club does have a set of bandpass
filters. these are designed to reject interference
from radios on a different BAND, saying keeping a 20m
meter SSB signal on 14.200 from interfering with a 40m
CW signal on 7.035. they are not sharp enough to
prevent interference from two radios in the same band.

what John was asking for, a very very narrow filter
around 20 kHz BW is POSSIBLE, but a bit exotic. some
new high end rigs have these filters at their first IF
- they are called roofing filters. finding one at
14.070 for the PSK31 station might be a bit tough.
and here's another problem - these filters have high
loss and they do not handle high power - so they are
receive only.

'good' radios have some good filtering to begin with,
but we will still have to work this problem some more
in future events. when the PSK31 station was well
adjusted, I could work CW most of the time since the
interference was around 2 s-units. maybe i couldnt
copy the weakest stations calling, but this was
useable. since we are 'amateurs' we are still
learning - looking forward to working these things
out!
