[K3PZN-List] FD2007 Initial Report - PSK QRO or equivalent

Time sharing only !

I am merely relating to John's remarks wanting more
PSK31 transmitted power, Bill's remarks wanting more
CW transmitted power, and my own thoughts trying to
make a QSO on phone (i had zero).

I would rather share a good antenna than be limited to
a bad antenna. And note I do NOT have very good
antennas at my QTH so I am not 'spoiled.'

Note what the receiving station hears is your
transmitted power +/- your antenna gain in their
particular direction (and radiation angle). So
running QRP, we can be louder with better antennas.

For 80m, better generally means more efficient (size
in comparison to wavelength) and since there are many
stations within the skip zone, it does not have to be
very high. On 20m and above, the skip zone is larger
meaning stations will be more DX - and height above
ground is more important - but a half wavelength up
(30-35 feet) will be effective).

If I could have only one antenna, i would opt for an
extended double zepp for 20m, which is around 88 feet
long and needs to be up at least 30-35 feet. The same
antenna will also work well on 40 and 80 meters,
although it will lose a little efficiency on 80m being
less than a half wave long. Such an antenna, to be
multiband, should be fed with ladder line.

73, curt

PS - some big contest stations like W3LPL do some
interesting antenna (and linear amp) sharing -- they
have two rigs at each position, with the pounce guy
getting priority on the linear for transmit vs. the
run guy ... note only one guy transmits at a time. no
i am not suggesting we do this at FD !
