Greetings Bill;
A couple questions:
Are you able to copy packets from the BBS, or APRS activity on 144.390?
This is a worthwhile test to make sure your TNC is in Packet mode at 1200
Baud. Your MFJ unit is a multi-mode device, and it could be in the wrong mode.
RF Feedback? Could you be getting RF back into the TNC from the radio? Not
as common when using FM, but not beyond possibility either. What happens
when you set your radio to the lowest power setting??
Can you give me an idea what frequency the tone is? It may go towards
getting the unit into the right mode. RTTY uses 2125 and 2295 Hz. If you've
ever done RTTY you would recognize it if this was what you were hearing.
