Rule 6.9 applies to batteries that are charged "while in use." It does not
apply to batteries charged before Field Day or to batteries charged during Field
Day while not connected to a radio. It does not prohibit using dry cells either.
I normally keep my batteries on floating charge from a solar array. This
qualifies for the 100-point bonus for Alternate Power under Rule 7.3.8.
Other stations may want to use the generator to charge batteries OFFLINE FROM
THE RADIO.
Note that Rule 4.3 requires that all contacts must be made using battery power.
That means that the logging computers and lights may be run from the genset.
However, any computer that are used to key the transmitter for CW or process
signals for PSK31 or RTTY must run from battery power. K3KWO may need that
400-Ah battery to keep his PSK31 computer up for 24 h.
