John, 

FB.  i guess i am spoiled by K2's low current draw -
1-2 medium gel cells will keep it alive during the
whole event.  but an FT-817 type rig takes a little
more power.  

antenna.  a wire antenna will likely outperform the
outbacker.  for a 80m a half wave end fed will work
well via a tuner.  for 40 and 20 dipoles are straight
forward and they can be fed from same coax.  

i guess meeting is tommorrow nite?  

i might be tempted to pitch my tent and stay
overnight, on the other hand home is only a few miles
away!  on the other hand, it is much easy to operate
late if i pitch the tent!
