[K3PZN-List] 2006 Field Day

Curt,

Sounds great, the more Amp-Hours, the better, at 12 to 14 Volts. I am
looking at some of the heavy duty, deep discharge batteries at Walmart (125
AH each) for about $62.00 each. I am building a UPS system for my shack
that will give me about 250-300 AH at 13.60 Volts. It will be backed-up by
a regulated 13.65 Volt switching supply that is designed to float on a
battery bank. This should run the shack for whatever time it takes for me
to start and switch-in my propane fired generator that backs up my house.
Unfortunately, the generator is not auto-start and is located out from the
house in a garage building.

I am looking forward to running on batteries for Field Day. The low power
approach should be challenging and a lot quieter than multiple generators
constantly running.

I just hope that the weather cooperates and we don't get soaked. I have a
large tent to operate out of. I'm still not sure what antennas to use but,
we have an excelent multiband vertical (Outbacker with the ground mounting
frame).

Talk to you later at the next club meeting,
John, K3KWO
