TO ALL,
It really doesn't take a lot of power to communicate long distances in
PSK-31. Today, I was sitting on a picnic bench here in Glen Arbor, Michigan
running 5 watts (IC-703) and PSK-31 with an Outbacker Antenna keyboarding
with a Ham in northern Italy with good signals both directions on 14.070
MHZ. I know, 20 meters is normally good to Italy, but only 5 watts and good
copy both ways? Power amps have thier place for SSB and maybe some for CW
but I am convenced that no more than 30 watts is needed (with a good
antenna) to handle most traffic on PSK-31 or maybe PSK-63 or even RTTY. If
you haven't tried it, you don't know what you have missed.

John, K3KWO/8 QRP
