If you've been waiting for the Federales to act on the proposals to change
Part 97, don't hold your breath.  According to the ARRL news article "No
News is... No News" on their website www.arrl.org, a NPRM is unlikely to
come up until sometime in 2006.

Looks like it's gonna be awhile before the FCC waves the magic wand and
makes Tech class licensees instant Generals.  Of course, you could always do
it the hard way and take the exam to earn the license...
