> The 800 MHz radio system in Carroll County (Md.) slipped off the air after a bank of batteries at a tower site went dead. The radio system has 7 tower sites, all equipped with banks of batteries. According to the county, they were in the midst of a battery replacement program, and had already swapped out batteries at six sites. Yep... the batteries at #7 failed, knocking the entire system off-line, since it was the primary tower site. Dispatchers noticed the system going down around 5:45 a.m., notified technicians, and the system was back on-line around 7:25 a.m.
