The monthly meeting of the CCARC for September was held on Monday,
September 8, 2003 at the EOC. The meeting was called to order at 19:32 by
Steve, N3SB. Other officers present were John, AK3Z, and Bill, N3WM.
N3YIM was on vacation. There were a total of 26 club members present. The
meeting included a 50/50 raffle, and a demonstration by Pat, N8PK on WIFI.
General announcements and Club Business:
Members introduced themselves. Fall Fest Recap-CCARC was present to help
out at the event and also to help raise money for scholarships. Steve, N3SB
and Keith, KB3HHK sold tickets for admission and tailgating. Joe, N3YIM
worked the club table. It was also a great opportunity to promote the
CCARC October hamfest.
1. There will be a RACES drill Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at 7:00 PM.
2. The Civil War Century Bike Ride will be held on September 13, 2003. A
plea for more volunteers was made.
3. The next Board Meeting will be Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at 7:30 PM
at the EOC.
4. The Wine Festival Bike Tour will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003.
More volunteers are needed. Contact Larry, WX3F if you wish to support
it.
5. The VHF contest will be held September 13-14.
6. Ron Magin Estate items are available. Contact AK3Z at [email protected] for a
list of items. Items will be available for display at the club station
after September 23, 2003.
7. The third weekend in October, 2003 is the Jamboree on the Air. Contact
John, W3JJH at [email protected] if interested in helping out.
8. The August meeting minutes were approved by the club members present.
Motions first and second made by William, KB3GHE, and John, W3JJH at 19:45
EDT.
9. Bill, N3WM gave the current financial report. General club members
present approved the report. Motions first and second made by John, W3JJH
and William, KB3GHE.
10. Clint, W3ARS suggested open discussion about the recent proposal by
Doug, N5LBJ for a CCARC Youth program to get young people interested in Ham
Radio and our club.
11. Update by Larry, WX3F on meeting with Carroll County officials to
obtain required capacity over fiber for remote receive site. Plans were
discussed for the County supporting hams and emergency preparedness.
12. Fire department putting together an emergency communications vehicle.
13. Repeater Committee Report. Repeaters are working but need adjustment.
Larry, WX3F will meet with Ed Macon (MEIMS) technician to discuss capacity
issues for remote receive site. Larry, WX3F, John, AK3Z, and Steve, N3SB
inspected the repeater site and determined what needs to be done
w/capacity.
14. RACES and ARES Report. Wine Festival Bike Tour on September 20, 2003.
The amateur community is the CCARC from the standpoint of Carroll County.
Jerry, N3GQK mentioned that the County has designated emergency shelters.
The packet BBS is back on line.
15. Station Committee Report given by John, AK3Z. John, AK3Z, and Steve,
N3SB traveled to Dillsburg, PA to pick up 3 mast sections for the club
tower project. Thrust bearings also ordered and delivered for the project.
Committee will be scheduling a crew to do the tower work and install new
antennas sometime late September or early October. More miscellaneous
accessory items will be ordered for the club station to complete previous
plans for adding needed equipment. The inventory for station equipment and
repeater equipment has been completed by John, AK3Z. The club will get
insurance when values have been assigned. There are many unused antennas on
both towers at the EOC, according to Buddy, KD3UZ. This may be an
opportunity for the CCARC to claim unused tower space for more antennas.
The Icom equipment has all necessary accessories for satellite operation.
The station committee will discuss the purchase of satellite antennas in
the near future. The CCARC and station has accepted donations of a Telrex
TB6EM triband yagi and a custom made 4-1000 HF power amplifier, along with
IBM computer and accessories. These items were donated by the W3PG estate.
The Club station will be offering all excess computer equipment for
donation/sale to individual club members at the next meeting. All
equipment not taken by club members will be sold at the October hamfest or
donated elsewhere.
16. Membership Committee. Frank, K3MTT is still looking for a Chair for
the Membership committee.
17. Training and Education Committee. Further discussion of Youth program
by Doug, N5LBJ. Doug proposed the following motion for approval:
"The creation of the Carroll County Radio Club Youth Organization. With a
line item budget of $500 to be extended to activities directly related to
that group."
The motion was second by K3KWO, tabled by WX3F and tabled second by W3JJH.
18. Digital Committee. The committee is moving along with weekly PSK31
nets held by Doug, N5LBJ. John, K3KWO will be taking over the net starting
with September 11, 2003 session.
19. Old Business. The motion for reimbursement to new amateurs passing
license exam through the CCARC was passed by the club in general.
The completion of business discussion was followed by a 50/50 raffle and
presentation by Pat, N8PK on WiFi for amateur radio.
