HI TO ALL;
HERE ARE THE NOTES TAKEN AT THE TUESDAY MEETING WITH THE COUNTY
EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS PERSONNEL, 73
JOE
MEETING WITH COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS PERSONNEL
On September 2d, 2003, the Officers, Board members and members of the
CCARC met with the County Emergency Communications personnel at the
Airport Inn.
Those present were, Steve N3SB, John AK3Z, Bill N3WM, Joe N3YIM, Doug
N5LBJ, Frank K3MTT, Keith KB3HHK, Larry WX3F and Jerry N3GQK from the club.
Buddy Redman, KD3UZ, Director EC, George Thomas, Asst Director EC and
Bill Martin, Asst Director EC, from the county.
Larry asked about access to the Sykesville site to finish installation
of the remote site, Buddy said that it needs to be coordinated with Mike
Valentine; what equipment is needed to complete the installation at the
Gorsuch road site? A card is required to complete the fiber optic
installation or we can use hard wire, Buddy replied that no wire can be
used for fear of a lightening strike; Buddy I have no problem with
buying the necessary equipment to finish the job; Larry, I have talked
to Ed Macon of MIEMSS (Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Support
System) about the installation and didnt get much of an answer; Buddy
the tower is owned by MIEMSS and the building at Sykesville by the county.
Larry, the 2 Meter repeater has been spurring at the Gorsuch Road site,
or there is intermod on the 410 machine; Buddy will check his radios,
since there are male and female voices heard causing the intermod it
could be Carroll Area Transit System (CATS) causing the problem.
George stated that the CCARC is an important part of emergency
communications for the county, for such places as the hospital and
shelters (schools) when activated.
Steve, we need some type of communications between the Fire Training
Center and the Emergency Operations Center; George there are antennas
installed at the EOC for emergency communications, Larry stated that
they work really well.
Buddy, we are planning on conducting a tabletop emergency exercise with
public service organizations within the county, the CCARC can
participate if only as observers.
Doug, we are here to help in any emergency, we just need to know what
you want us to do, where you want us to do it, and call us.
We can get lists of shelters and points of contact from George, if we
request them.
Steve stated that the club is preparing a presentation of what we all
about, what we can do, and how we can support the various county
agencies in a communications emergency; would the county be interested
is seeing this, or the commissioners as well; Buddy said perhaps.
Steve said that there is a possibility that we may receive a gift of a
communications van, would we be able to keep it at the FTC; Buddy could
not say we can, but the Firemans Association wants to build a
communications van out of a bus, perhaps some help fabricating it by
club members would make permission to store our vehicle there easier to
obtain; Steve we would be happy to help even without that permission.
