Invitation to All the Clubs in FAR and any individual
amateur that is interested in the BPL proposal.

On Thursday January 8, 2004 the Amateur Radio Research
and Development Corporation (AMRAD) and the Historical
Electronics Museum Amateur Radio Club (HEMARC) will
have a joint meeting and discussion at the Historical
Electronics Museum. The Joint meeting will be at
7:00 pm in Pioneer Hall in the Museum. AMRAD has made
measurements and assessed the potential impact of BPL
on HF noise levels.

BPL is the proposal before the FCC to transmit broad
band digital data over the power line distribution
system. There is serious concern that this will
increase the ambient noise levels in many HF bands
used by amateurs to the level which will render the
bands essentially useless. There are those who
disagree, particularly the industry that has proposed
to building and operating the systems. Two experimental
systems have been deployed in the Maryland suburbs and
AMRAD has monitored them. The ARRL has been aggressive
in requesting that the FCC NOT license this system.

In this meeting it is anticipated that a better
understanding of just what the potential danger of
this system actually poses to the amateur community.

If any groups would like to have a guided tour of the
museum before the meeting please email <[email protected]>.
